Northwest landscapes at the Freeland Library

Starting this Sunday and continuing through the month of October, the Freeland Library will be hosting an exhibition of Northwest Landscape Paintings from the Froggwell Cultural Institute. If you are on or within a days travel to Whidbey Island Washington, it will be worth the trip to see paintings from this collection. Included in the collection are paintings by several Northwest favorites, including Guy Anderson, Ed Nordin, Ed Kamuda, Anne Belov, Pete Jordan, P.J. White, Kay French and others. The library is open 7 days a week. Please log onto www.sno-isle.org to find daily hours, which vary and I'm not writing them all down here!

In conjunction with this exhibition, Polly Young will give a lecture on Sunday October 30th about the show, making comparisons with historical paintings. Unfortunately, no one would loan us a Thomas Moran or Henri Matisse painting, so you'll just have to see what the best of Whidbey Island and the Pacific Northwest have to offer. Again, consult the Sno-Isle website for the exact time.

Announcing the 2012 Froggwell Biennale

I just wanted to write a quick post, so that all of you who were following the progress of the 1913 Armory Show (a forgery thereof, that is) would know that this is not the end of fabulous posts on the official site of the Froggwell Cultural Institute. Since the chief communications assistant to the Froggwellian did such a great job setting up this blog, I thought it would be a great idea to continue, with posts and profiles about the artists who will be in the show next year, along with links to THEIR websites and blogs, so you have a really good idea of what will be in store for the show next year.

The Armory Show was an outstanding exhibition, and many people took advantage of the opportunity to acquire great works of art. Who would have guessed that YOU could own Marcel Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase"? Won't the Philadelphia Museum of Art be surprised?

Look for posts here several times a month! We will keep you informed of what our Froggwell regulars are working on, as well as this year's guest artists, and also news of previous guest artists and forgery show participants.

Till next time

      Forgery Display at Freeland Library

There will be a "forgery" display at the Freeland Library during the month of February. The Froggwellian has organized a display of about 15 paintings by local artists, primarily from his personal collection.

In addition, Anne B. will present "What Makes Great Art Great?" at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 20 at the Freeland Library.  She will discuss some notable past and present forgers, along with painting techniques and art interpretation.

For more information, see the article "Mais non! A forgery? Impossible!" in the current issue of The South Whidbey Record (January 29, 1011).

Included in the display will be the following "forgery" by Anne B.

Symphony in White #2: The Little White Girl, 1864
      James Whistler
